Old Hab-its, Diehards
There are few things I enjoy more than playoff hockey. But if any other game is on par, it would have to be Mississauga Scrabble. While we were at the club last night, my Montreal Canadiens (don’t you hate it when sports fans append “my” to their favourite teams?) were facing off against the malevolent Philadelphia Flyers in game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals. We won.
We can throw ours hats onto the ice in recognition of Jason and Ade! These two power forwards won all their games last night.
Jason, or “Juju”, as he is known in some circles, sees his club rating climb an astonishing 32 points for beating tough opponents. Not only that, but he also entered the highlight reel with the TSN TURNing Point: Needing a big play to win, Jason had TILTERS on his rack, but no lane for it. He had to find a way to play a bingo through a separated U and N: U_Nlikely? Yes. U_Nthinkable? Not for Jason, who found the nine-letter TURNSTILE to end the game. Amazing!
Ade completed his hat trick in Period 3. He played GRADINES as a bingo to the TWS, which drew a hasty challenge from Jean who was at risk of going into sudden death OVERTIME. Ade always wins in style, especially last night as he was wearing a nice suit and tie.
Also scoring a big goal was Jim, who played and won in Guelph this past weekend. Kinda like the Toronto Maple Leafs, who probably played and won in golf this past weekend. Jim struck a new high win for the season with an astronomical 574. It tips his rating up a point–one small step for Jim–bringing it to 1969. That was the year of the moon landing. Don’t recall? It was a long time ago… and yet, stunningly, a more recent event than the Leafs’ last Stanley Cup championship.
Thanks to Andy for running a good tournament and also for frequent Canadiens updates. Game 4 is Saturday afternoon in Montreal. Go Habs!
